Fashion, according to Merriam-Webster, is defined as “the prevailing style (as in dress) during a particular time.” Through this strange, even humorous, juxtaposition of the elegant beauty of a Christian Dior model* coupled with a gown made from the now universally worn disposable face mask, this piece transforms what was once an unthought-of item into a meaningfully charged symbol for our time. A mundane disposable face mask has suddenly been cast into the spotlight of society as the unsung hero of our times, placing itself at the center of safety, necessity, and perhaps even fashion for these strange times we live in.
